On the eve of Remembrance Day, we came together in Uffington Village Hall to celebrate the life, albeit too brief, and works of Wilfred Owen.
Thanks to the indepth knowledge of our speaker- Chris Huss- and a slide presentation collated by Lynda Oldham, we had an amazing opportunity to learn about Wilfred Owens’s early life in and around Shropshire, his war service and his most reknowned war poems.
After the presentation, Chris Huss gave a recitation of two of Wilfred’s key works including a line by line explanation of each poem’s meaning.
This was a very poignant event, tinged by the sadness and suffering that war inevitably brings. However, it was also good to remember and was a great reminder to us all that we should never forget.
